More calories to lose weight? November 1, 2007

I read some weight loss articles/websites today which don’t make much sense to me. Then again, if weight loss made sense to me, I probably wouldn’t need to do worry about it.

The sources make it sound like the body must have a certain number of calories per day to lose weight. Now, I’m definitely not trying to starve myself. The sites all say the same basic thing: “Do not go below 1200 calories per day unless medically supervised”. They also say to reduce your body’s caloric needs by 500 calories/day. I was shocked to learn that I would need to eat over 2300 calories per day to maintain my weight. So, the fact that I’m eat about half of that should get things going faster!

Another 2.4! November 1, 2007

Many people wouldn’t be excited about gaining 2.4, but when it’s in relation to miles walked it’s a great feeling!

My husband and I walked another 2.4 miles tonight, from our apartment to Hollywood Video and back. We returned Meet the Robinsons (not the best movie, not terrible, the animation is alright). “Normal” people would drive down there, but we view it as a chance to get some much-needed exercise.

One thing that I’ve noticed on our walks is that there are a few pedestrian crosswalks where the signals don’t work. Apparently you can never cross there for any reason. Who fixes those things – the city? Anyway, we walk on the other side now in order to avoid those.

At any rate, we walked 2.4 miles which brings our weekly goal down to just 4.4 miles left this week!
